SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE NEED
E-mail or snail-mail anyone you know who might care... Compassion in Action has saved every adoptable animal that was left behind by other rescue groups at MatSu Shelter since October 2003, almost 500 pets to date, so no one has been euthanized except in cases of illness or viciousness. WE NEED HELP to fund and build sanctuaries for pets who don't find homes right away.
Many pets are now being saved at the Anchorage Animal Shelter as well!! Volunteers and adoption sponsors are flagging pets at Anchorage Animal Shelter for rescue and posting their pictures on adoptafriend.net's Last Chance page - look for them there!

Each week, pets run out of time in shelters before they find new families. Sometimes this is because a family interested in adopting a shelter pet can't afford the adoption fee.
Compassion in Action and the Rays of Hope sponsor the adoption fees for many pets at the MatSu shelter; private individuals do this at the Anchorage shelter. IT WORKS... Many pets who have run out of time find wonderful families through sponsorship. Compassion in Action can show you how to do this VERY easily - call 841-0502 or email catndog@mtaonline.net

PAPER HANGING - THE GOOD KIND
Each week, I publish the "Last Chance" site to post pictures of babes who have run out of time at shelters. Any good place to advertise is a good place for these posters. If you're willing to "hang some paper," I can get the posters to anyone by Saturday afternoon.

PENNIES FOR PETS AND CENTS FOR SANCTUARY
Several businesses and classrooms are collecting pennies in jars to raise money to build long-term, no-kill living quarters for homeless pets - we call them the Kitty Kottages and Doggie Dorms. The pennies will be used for land purchase and building construction materials. MatSu Water is donating the penny banks, and we can get one to anyone who asks.

Every animal has rescue fees; most have spay/neuter and boarding expenses as well, so every dime helps. Several kind-hearted business owners allow us to place collection houses at their sites to allow folks to donate on the spot. If you have a relationship with a business owner who would be willing to do this, let me know.

Kaladi Brothers Coffee Alaska Video Cache in Wasilla sell my baked goodies for donations at their stores, so if you’ve got the time for a couple dozen cookies (or any baked yummies), call me and I can pick them up to deliver.

And, of course, caring for their needs....
Transportation - Because I make sure all my babes receive appropriate veterinary care, and spay/neuter all our rescued pets, transportation to and from vet appointments is always appreciated.
Foster Care - Most shelter rescues are traumatized – they’ve lost their homes and families, they’ve spent at least 10 days with limited human contact in a scary place, some have been taken from their families because of neglect or abuse. Foster families provide love, attention and stability in a member-of-the-family setting while we look for a new, permanent family. I provide food, vet care, advertising, hay, kennels, fencing.....
Cuddle and Groom - The babes at the Dorm and Kottage never get nearly enough human interaction, and always love visits and brushing. We've got the "scooping" mostly managed, but you can never get enough brushing and toenail clipping. Even little humans can help us give our Kitties the snuggles they all need.
Salvage Collection - Each summer, I try to build Kitty Kottages and Doggie Dorms (so far, I have one of each) and snug single-dog kennels that provide long-term housing for small numbers of pets who don't find new families right away. I do this by offering a cleanup crew to home builders or folks with small construction projects in return for the salvage material. Volunteers for even a day are really appreciated.
